The BMW iX electric crossover hit the market in autumn 2021, and has now undergone its first major update. Together with the changed design, the car has become more travelled on a single charge - if before the maximum was 633 km, now 700 km are possible. In addition, the power of all three modifications has increased, so they have changed designations. There were: xDrive40, xDrive50 and M60. It became: xDrive45, xDrive60 and M70.

Here's What We Know

The exterior dimensions of the BMW iX have not changed significantly, but the car looks a little different. The reason for this is a different shape of air intakes in the front bumper, a new pattern of BMW's signature "nostrils" and headlight graphics. There is also a new option - contour illumination of the front "grille", as on BMW i7. It is difficult to judge about the changes in the design of the rear of the car because of the many options of optics and the M Sport package. But it seems that the diffuser has become larger.

Inside, BMW has abandoned the oddly shaped steering wheel in favour of a regular round one, but retained the slightly curved dual display. The updated crossover will be available with BMW's iDrive system and OS 8.5, introduced in summer 2023.

Features, equipment and pricing

All three versions of the BMW iX are all-wheel drive. Increased range is achieved through a number of innovations. Thus, the base version xDrive45 has a battery with increased capacity. However, in the other two modifications there is a noticeable reduction in power consumption. This has been reduced by more efficient inverters, new friction-reducing hub bearings and 'fuel-efficient' A+ tyres.

  • iX xDrive45: power 300 kW; torque 700 Nm; battery 94.8 kWh; WLTP range 490-602 km; 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
  • IX xDrive60: 400 kW power; 765 Nm torque; 109.1 kWh battery; WLTP range 563-701 km; 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
  • iX M70 xDrive: power 486 kW; torque 1,015 Nm; battery 108.9 kWh; WLTP range 521-600 km; 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights, heated seats and steering wheel, adaptive cruise control (ACC, called BMW "Driving Assistant Plus"), a projection display ("BMW Live Cockpit Professional") and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. The M70 offers active steering, air suspension, front grille with contour lighting, M Sport Pro package and dark side windows as standard.

Prices in Germany start from: €83,500 for the iX xDrive45, €99,900 for the IX xDrive60 and €124,900 for the iX M70 xDrive. Thus the base version with the new battery became more expensive by 6,200 euros, but the middle version became cheaper by 8,000 euros, and the top version became cheaper by more than 18,000 euros.

BMW is yet to provide exact information about the start of production and market launch, but orders will be open from spring 2025.
