Tencent Holdings Ltd. and the Guillaume family, the founders of Ubisoft Entertainment SA, are in talks to create a new venture that will include certain Ubisoft assets.

Here's What We Know

According to Bloomberg, both parties are evaluating which assets should be included in the new project and their value. A potential deal would allow Tencent to take a stake in the new venture and gain more control over some of Ubisoft's intellectual property, which would help expand the company's business outside of China.

Discussions are ongoing and no final decisions have been made. A Tencent spokesperson declined to comment on the situation, while an Ubisoft spokesperson referred to an announcement on 9 January when the company announced that it had appointed consultants to review various value-adding options.

Ubisoft has suffered significant losses in share price, which have fallen by almost 50% over the past year, bringing its market capitalisation to about $1.6 billion. In September, the company lowered its forecasts and postponed the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows from November to February, and recently again to 20 March.
