Toyota today officially unveiled the new Urban Cruiser electric crossover. Design features and key technical specifications have been revealed. The public debut will take place in January 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show.

Here's What We Know

The Toyota Urban Cruiser is the production version of last year's Urban SUV Concept. From a technical point of view, the new electric car is the closest relative of the Suzuki e Vitara, which will be sold in India under the Maruti brand.

Dimensions of the Toyota Urban Cruiser

  • length: 4285 mm
  • width: 1800 mm
  • height: 1640 mm
  • wheelbase: 2700 mm

The Urban Cruiser is based on a new platform. Two batteries will be available for Europe: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The standard equipment will include a heat pump and a battery preheating system.

The version with the smaller battery is powered by a front-mounted motor with 144 hp (DIN) and 189 Nm of torque. The larger battery version offers 174bhp and the same 189Nm of torque, while the twin-motor configuration offers 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. The all-wheel drive version gets additional driving modes, in particular the hill descent control function.

The dimensions of the new car are slightly larger than the Yaris Cross, but the wheelbase increased by 140 mm provides a more spacious interior. The second row of seats can be moved, reclined and split in a 40:20:40 ratio.

Wheels are 18 or 19 inches, with aerodynamic deflectors. The cabin features a combined unit with a 10.1-inch multimedia system display and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

Active safety features include adaptive cruise control, collision warning and lane keeping systems.

Prices have not yet been announced, but given the equipment and features, the Urban Cruiser EV has every chance of becoming a popular choice. The electric car will be manufactured in India at Suzuki's Gujarat plant.
