Players begin their journey in an abandoned quarantine zone, aiming to reach a safe place in Jackson, while trying to save the lives of all group members.

The game requires careful route planning through dangerous areas where players face various challenges. Each location contains Chapter cards that players must solve to obtain important information, weapons and equipment. Survival depends on difficult decisions and the tactical use of item cards and special dice to overcome threats such as hunters, FEDRA agents, and the terrifying infected.

The game was developed by Themeborne. It publishes board games with simple rules. Themeborne is best known for its award-winning Escape the Dark series of atmospheric adventure games. Escape the Dark is known for its emphasis on simple co-operative play.
