Audi has unveiled the second generation of the Q5 crossover in the coupe-like Sportback version and its more powerful SQ5 Sportback variant. The redesigned Q5 Sportback is even more stylish, but again sacrifices some of the practicality of the regular Q5 in favour of refined styling and better aerodynamics.

What's New.

The main visual difference between the Audi Q5 Sportback and the regular Q5 is the sloping roof and updated rear end. The car has received an original design of side windows, sloping rear window and thin rear OLED lights. For the S Line version and the more powerful SQ5 Sportback there are additional colour accents: matt anthracite and silver respectively. For proper identification of the model, also pay attention to the exhaust pipes: the SQ5 has four round ones instead of two trapezoidal ones in the S Line version.

Unexpectedly, Audi has added the option of roof rails even for the coupe-like crossover. The boot volume is 515 litres, and with folded seats - up to 1,415 litres, which is still 58 litres less than the standard Q5.

The interior of the novelty repeats the base model: digital panel on 11.9 inches, multimedia screen on 14.5 inches and an additional display for the passenger (10.9 inches). The interior trim is made from sustainable materials, including Cascade and Dinamica, created primarily from recycled polyester.

Engines and prices

The Audi Q5 Sportback is built on the PPC platform shared with the Audi Q5 and A5. At the start of sales in Europe, only 'mild-hybrid' (MHEV) petrol and diesel powertrains are available. The entry-level 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TDI produce 204bhp, but the diesel outperforms its petrol counterpart in torque (400Nm vs 340Nm). Both are equipped with a 48-volt system with a 24bhp motor-generator. The gearbox in all versions is a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. A quattro all-wheel drive is optionally available.

Later in the Audi Q5 Sportback's life cycle, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) with a large battery and external charger will be available.

The most powerful SQ5 Sportback in Europe is now petrol, as it is in the US. The 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine develops 367 hp and maximum torque of 550 Nm. This version is exclusively all-wheel drive.

Prices in Germany start from €54,800 ($57,500) for the Q5 Sportback and from €85,400 ($89,620) for the SQ5 Sportback - that's €2,500 more expensive than the regular Q5 and SQ5. The model will debut in the US in 2026 to compete with the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.
