It looks like another major merger is looming in the gaming industry - not as big as Microsoft's, but it could have a significant impact on the balance of power.

Here's What We Know

Reuters journalists reported that Sony is in talks with Japanese media holding Kadokawa Corporation, which owns many game studios, but, undoubtedly, its main asset is FromSoftware - the author of such famous games as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Armored Core and Elden Ring.

Reuters' sources claim that Sony wants to expand its portfolio of released games and other media projects in this way.

Both companies declined to comment on media information.

Recall, Sony owns a 2% stake in Kadokawa, and also has a stake (14.09%) in FromSoftware.

It is still impossible to say how much this news corresponds to reality, but stock markets instantly reacted to it and the value of Kadokawa shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose by 23% and set a record.

Undoubtedly, Sony would like to get such a studio as FromSoftware at its disposal, but the purchase will cost a considerable amount of money - before the publication of Reuters capitalisation of Kadokawa was about $2.7 billion, but we are sure that the company would be interested in making Bloodborne 2, new Elden Ring or any other FromSoftware game as a PlayStation exclusive and prevent its release on Xbox.
