The US Department of Justice is demanding that Google sell its Chrome browser as part of an antitrust lawsuit, Bloomberg reports.

Here's What We Know

This demand arose after it was proved that Google has a monopoly on search engines.

Chrome is the most popular browser in the world, and its integration with other Google products, including the search engine, limits competition in the search market.

Regulators also want Google to separate Android from its other products, such as Google Search and the Play Store. In addition, the Ministry of Justice is proposing to license Google's data to improve competition among search engines and artificial intelligence startups. Restrictions on exclusive agreements may also be imposed, as with Apple, which ensures Google's default status in Safari.

Google has filed an appeal and a hearing on the matter will be held in April 2025.
